WILMINGTON, NC – The Hannah Block Historic USO/Community Arts Center is proud to present the 9th annual ARTfall, a juried exhibition featuring the work of new and established artists. The exhibition is in the lobby museum and community gallery of the Historic USO Building and will be open to the public October 18 – 26, Mon. – Sat. 10 am – 5 pm.
ARTfall will open with a dessert reception to honor the artists and announce the award winners on Thursday October 17th from 6 to 8 pm. The public is invited to attend the reception and enjoy signature refreshments from Apple Annie’s Bake Shop and Nothing Bundt Cakes. Well-known solo artist and instrumentalist Susan Savia will perform songs from her vast repertoire including jazz, pop, country, and classic standards. Artist awards will be presented for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, Honorable Mention, and People’s Choice with cash prizes totaling $525.00.
Award-winning artist Benjamin Billingsley returns to judge ARTfall for the second time. Benjamin holds an MFA from UNC-Greensboro and has exhibited work in the United States, Latvia, Estonia, Russia, and Japan. Ben has taught studio art and art history at Cape Fear Community College since 2001 and in 2006 received the Marilyn Goodman Anderson Endowed Award for Excellence in Teaching. Ben was the curator for a 2015 exhibition at the Cameron Art Museum, The Eye Learns: Modernist Prints from the Belden Collection and was the judge for the CAM’s 2016 Art of Illumination. He also served as a judge for the Wilmington Art Association’s 2021 Azalea Festival Spring Show at the Hannah Block Historic USO/Community Arts Center and Orange Street ArtsFest.
