New Internship Opportunity – Economic DevelopmentĀ 

Wilmington Downtown, Inc. (WDI) is at the forefront of economic development and urban transformation. Our nonprofit organization is dedicated to cultivating a vibrant and thriving downtown community. We are seeking a dynamic Economic Development Intern to contribute to our mission of fostering growth and prosperity in Downtown Wilmington, North Carolina.

Responsibilities:

The responsibility of the Economic Development Intern is to assist in advancing all WDI projects and initiatives related to business recruitment and retention efforts, as well as economic data gathering and insights that will further WDI’s mission. This is not a remote internship position. Roles include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting WDI leadership in conducting comprehensive research on economic trends and development opportunities.
  • Contribute to the execution of targeted economic development strategies.
  • Routine engagement with local businesses and community stakeholders under the guidance of WDI leadership.
  • Provide support in planning and executing strategic events aimed at promoting economic growth.
  • Assists in compiling data that will help generate economic insights.
  • Produced economic development-related content for the WDI website and social media, working with WDI’s Business Outreach and Marketing Coordinator.
  • Intermittent involvement in event hosting and regular participation in board events and meetings.

Qualifications

Qualifications may vary depending on a student’s educational track and interest in being integrated into the inner workings of our local nonprofit organization. Experience and qualifications can include:

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Economics, Urban Planning, Business, or a related field.
  • Strong research and analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Passion for economic development and community advancement, particularly as it pertains to business growth and activities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Constant Contact, Canva, and/or data analysis tools is preferred.

This is a paid internship with a 20-hour per-week commitment. Schedules can be adjusted to accommodate students’ needs. Please note that only one position is available for the year.
