Details:
PROJECT GRACE is a public-private redevelopment project focusing on an entire block in the heart of Downtown Wilmington.
Zimmer Development Company plans to begin demolition work for the project this summer. Project Grace is in planning under a development agreement between New Hanover County and Zimmer Development Company.
When complete, the redeveloped three-acre block, bordered by Grace, Third, Chestnut, and Second Streets, will include the New Hanover County Main Public Library, Cape Fear Museum, and the current county parking deck. After completing this public side of the development, the private side of the development work will begin and include residential and retail space. The private side of the development project is still in planning.
WDI has partnered with Zimmer Development Company and the County in the economic development role for the project. Our organization recently hosted its Fall Downtown Economic Development Series Luncheon on Project Grace, bringing more than 350 people to the event to hear from members of Zimmer Development and LS3P, the architecture firm hired to design this large-scale mixed-use development.
WDI sees this as a transformative project for our Downtown, one which will last for generations to come.
